Here’s some photos of my garden as of 7/1/10. You’ll notice that my grass is really long. We’ve been having rain almost every day, all day long. We finally got the grass mowed on 7/5 and guess what? It’s raining again today!
Amish paste tomatoes. As you can tell, these things were wayyyy too big for my measly stakes. Must have something much larger and stronger for next year.
Cantaloupes are all coming in at one time. Need to remember to stagger plantings next spring. All this rain is causing them to split. Many of the Noir des Cannes are just split wide open and are inedible.
This is a golden melon. When the rind turns yellow, it’s supposedly ready to harvest. Either I don’t have enough nutrients in the soil or I picked it too soon, but this melon was practically tasteless. I plan to plant this again next summer, but in a better prepared bed with lots of amendments. If it fails again next year, I won’t replant in the future.
Pickling cukes & sugar baby watermelons are growing together on a trellis. I have to squat down and look very closely @ the cukes since they like to hide and then grow to massive proportions overnight.
Purple basil grown mainly for flowers to attract bees. The green basil is just mammoth leaf basil, but something is eating it, not sure what. I do have basil planted in the front of the house in the herb garden and it’s been harvested several times and growing strong.
View from front side of the garden.
I pulled up 7 tomato plants on 7/1. Tried to replant using suckers from creole tomatoes. I’m pretty sure all of them, except maybe one has died. I also planted creole tomato seeds, 4 in all, in places where I had dug up Amish paste. Have not germinated yet.
Harvest totals since 6/15/2010
cucumbers: 11lbs
Creole tomatoes: 15lbs
paste tomatoes: 5lbs
banana peppers 4lbs
cherry tomatoes 2 pints
cantaloupe 7 (each)
sugar baby melon 1(each)
golden watermelon 1 (each)
See year to date harvest totals here.
Plan to start cabbage, cauliflower seeds when we return from World Series. Plan to acquire 3, 3 month old hens and possibly 3, 1 yr old hens that are already laying. Still on track to buy 30 Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks in October. Make a call to hatchery when we return.

And wish I would have given you some peaches….they were really good and all ripe at the same time….ending up freezing some….you were right, they were ready to be picked the day you were here. Jeff picked them that night. talk to you soon!!!

Your tree didn’t have enough peaches for your family! That’s the sucky thing about planting small fruit trees, they take forever to grow a large amount of fruit. I’m glad the kids enjoyed the cherry tomatoes. I ended up putting the rest of mine in the sauce I made yesterday.

Looks beautiful. Can’t believe what you have harvested already.
Yesterday was our first really warm day, but I do have some small green tomatoes!
There are brown spots all over my basil. Have no idea what that is from.

At least with the basil, it will bounce back. It’s got to be the most resilient plant, other than bamboo, that I’ve ever planted!

Wow! Love your garden!
