For Today…2/23/09-Monday

Outside my window… beautiful winter/spring day.  The winds are cold, out of the north, but the sun is shining and trying to warm the ground.

I am thinking…that it’s time to get my gardening hat on.  I have so many plans for our veggie garden this summer.  My hummingbird perennial garden is established, except for massive clover weeds, it pretty much takes care of its self.  Rh picked up some seeds, I’ll throw them in there and see what happens.  They are just annuals.

I am annoyed by…people & Mardi Gras.  I know Mardi Gras is a massive income generator for our city.  What really annoys me is that Mardi Gras  used to be one last hurrah before Lent, thereby making Mardi Gras a Catholic celebration.  But now, Mardi Gras has become just another way to flash your body, get as drunk as you want, and basically make a huge fool of yourself and not be held accountable for it.  I’m also annoyed by people who go around sucking all the joy out of every other Catholic celebration by calling it “pagan” (ie:  Valentine’s Day, Halloween/All Saint’s Day, etc), but have NO PROBLEM heading downtown for Mardi Gras festivities.  You people know who you are, so I won’t call you out, but you know.  If Halloween is “the devil’s day” and you won’t let your kids dress up and trick or treat, but yet you bring your children down in the snare of debauchery, vice, and sinful sexual deviancy, you may have some serious soul searching to do.  (And don’t even try to play the “but it’s family friendly fun” card, because Mardi Gras is NOT family friendly.  We stopped attending parades long before we returned to The Church.  People wanting to actually fist fight over beads, women & men having no dignity, drunkenness and general mayhem were the reasons we stopped going.  I’d rather indulge myself at home with sweet decadent treats in my preparations for Lent.  /rant

From the learning rooms… we’re having a super light week due to the Mardi Gras holidays.  Not like we’re going to be whooping it up at the parades, but the public school kids are out, which means my kids want to spend their school time playing w/their friends.  Totally understandable, so we’re just doing math on M/T/W and on Th/F we’ll add in English.  Next week we’ll jump back in full lessons.

I am thankful for.. beautiful weather, colds are finishing up in this house, my husband’s job, a dishwasher that cleans well, Lenten devotions

From the kitchen… dinner tonight will be pizza soup.  I’m also making yogurt in the crockpot right now.  Lunch will be leftover country ribs and apple sauce for the kids and cauliflower crust pizza for me.

I am wearing… brown flower socks, no shoes, flair leg jeans, red belt, brown tee with pink Java Jane’s tee shirt over it.  My bangs are pulled back as they were static-y and getting on my nerves!

I am reading… The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I’m not too sure about it.  It’s starting off really slow.  I also have The Painted Veil on my shelf to read.

I am creating… an empire of passive income!  (yeah right LOL)

I am hearing… the washing machine on spin cycle, the kids out in the courtyard yelling about something.

Around the house… this week is living room.  I’ve got the sofa pillows airing outside.  I plan to dust the ceiling fans.  I’ve got to get E to bring in the step ladder.  I’ve cleaned the bathrooms, the bedrooms are airing out.  I’ve got to dust and vacuum the living room.  More living room duties would be straighten/declutter desk area, air out sofa cushions, possibly vacuum them, wash and air dry curtains, dust/vacuum window sils and blinds (how I DESPISE this job!), dust along baseboards.  I really need to vacuum along the baseboard too.

One of my favorite things…a super discounted product that I know I’m going to use and a coupon to go with it making the item free or almost free.

A few plans for the rest of the week…I’m getting my tires on my car changed out today.  I’m actually going to have 60,000 mile tires.  Woot, I’ll be feeling much safer as we travel this summer and into next school year.  Tuesday is National Pancake day and IHOP is offering a free short stack to anyone.  It’s free, but they are asking for donations for Make A Wish Foundation.  I’ll probably take the boys for some pancakes after lunch (sorta like a dessert).  We are going to Mass on Wednesday and we’ll begin our Lenten sacrifice of no tv.  I am going to struggle with no tv, but I am going to do it.  Thursday will be grocery shopping and Friday, lunch out with Redd.  Lenten lunches out are a struggle as you don’t want to be a glutton, eating 2lbs of fried shrimp, but you also can’t order things you normally would eat.  Saturday will be WORK IN THE YARD DAY.  I have a ton of chores that need to be done before I begin planting.  We also need to mow the grass.

A picture thought I’m sharing:

Have a wonderful week.
